What is the Wallet?

The wallet is a pre-funded balance held per buyer. Each lead delivered to that buyer draws down the wallet. When the wallet runs low, you can top up via Stripe, set up auto-top-up, or fall back to the card on file. Useful for agencies that want clients to fund their lead spend upfront rather than billing after the fact.

When to Use the Wallet

  • Prepay agencies — clients fund a balance upfront, you bill against it as leads deliver
  • Multi-buyer accounts — top up one wallet for the account, fund all buyers from a shared balance
  • Pay-as-you-go — buyers add credit when they need volume, no monthly invoicing required
  • Risk management — prepaid means you never deliver leads on credit that doesn't exist

Adding Credit

  • Open the buyer detail page.
  • Click Add Credit.
  • Enter the amount — Stripe charge runs against the card on file (configurable).
  • Choose: wallet-only top-up, OR top up + charge buyer (their card on file is charged, not yours).
  • Confirm. The wallet balance updates immediately on successful charge.

Wallet vs Direct Card Charge

MechanismBest for
Wallet (prepay)Clients who prefer fixed upfront commitments. Predictable spend, no surprise bills.
Direct card charge per leadClients who want pay-as-you-go without funding a balance. Higher Stripe fees per transaction.
Net terms (postpay)Established clients with credit. Lead delivery now, invoice settled later. [See Net Terms](/docs/billing-net-terms).
Manual billing modeCustom invoicing flows outside Stripe. [See Manual Billing Mode](/docs/billing-manual-mode).

Payment Failure Policies

Configure per-buyer behavior when a wallet top-up or card charge fails: pause lead delivery until resolved, or continue delivering and queue the failed charge for retry. Default is pause — protects against silently delivering leads that can't be paid for.

Smarter billing safety nets (May 2026 release) flag suspicious charge patterns and silent failures earlier — reducing the chance of delivery continuing against a card with stale info. Configure in Settings → Billing → Safety Nets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Lead Distro AI's wallet different from a regular subscription?
Subscription is a recurring monthly charge for platform access — covers your plan tier and overage. Wallet is per-buyer prepaid balance for buyer-side spend (paying for leads delivered to that buyer). They're independent — your platform subscription is one Stripe charge, wallets are separate balances per buyer used for lead-by-lead drawdown.
Can I set up auto-top-up?
Yes — configure a threshold (e.g., $200) and a top-up amount (e.g., $1,000) per buyer. When the wallet falls below the threshold, Lead Distro AI auto-charges the card on file for the top-up amount. Removes manual re-funding friction. Disable auto-top-up if you prefer to manually approve each top-up.
What happens when a buyer's wallet runs to zero?
Depends on the payment-failure policy: Pause (default) stops delivery immediately and notifies you via Slack/email; Continue keeps delivering and queues charges against the card on file with retries. Pause is safer; Continue is convenient for trusted clients who keep their card current.
Can I charge a buyer's card directly without touching the wallet?
Yes — use the Charge Card action on the buyer page. Bypasses the wallet entirely and charges the card on file for any amount. Useful for one-off charges (setup fees, extra services) that shouldn't draw from the lead-funding wallet.
Do wallet top-ups show on Stripe invoices?
Yes — every wallet top-up creates a Stripe Charge with a clear description (`Lead Distro AI wallet top-up — Buyer XYZ`). One-click receipts are available from the wallet transaction detail page. Useful for accounting reconciliation between Lead Distro AI's ledger and Stripe's transaction history.
Can I refund a wallet top-up?
Yes — use the Deduct action with the 'deduct and refund to card' option. Lead Distro AI reduces the wallet balance and issues a Stripe refund for the corresponding amount. Or use 'wallet only' to deduct without refunding (e.g., applying credits earned elsewhere).
